Belghoria Expressway runs 13.5 km from Dum Dum, West Bengal to Uttarpara Kotrung, West Bengal.
Crosses West Bengal.
Through Dum Dum, New Barrackpore, Baranagar, Bally and Uttarpara Kotrung.
Why it matters
North Kolkata is dense old city, and before this road every vehicle heading for the Hooghly bridges had to pick its way through it. The expressway is now the standard route from the airport to anywhere west of the river.
History
The Belghoria Expressway was built to let traffic from the north of Kolkata reach the Vivekananda and Nivedita bridges over the Hooghly without grinding through Baranagar and Dum Dum. It connects the airport side of the city to the Delhi Road and the national highway west of the river, and it is the road most people use between Kolkata airport and Howrah or Durgapur.
