Why it matters
Durg, Bhilai and Raipur form one continuous industrial corridor, and this road is its spine. It is also the western approach to the new Raipur–Visakhapatnam expressway to the coast.
History
This is the six-lane, access-controlled stretch of NH 53 that runs across the middle of Chhattisgarh, linking the steel town of Bhilai and the city of Durg with the state capital Raipur and on to Arang. It is the busiest road in the state, carrying steel, coal and cement between the industrial belt and the rest of India.
