Why it matters
Ghaziabad is one of the most densely built cities in the Delhi region and its street network could not be widened. Building above the river was the only way to add a fast road through it.
History
The Hindon Elevated Road is a six-lane flyover through Ghaziabad, built along the Hindon river to carry traffic between the Delhi border at Khora and the north of the city without touching the streets below. When it opened it was among the longest elevated roads in the country, and it turned a journey that took the better part of an hour into about ten minutes.
