Regional Ring Road runs 162 km from Girmapur, near Sangareddy, Telangana (northern section) to Choutuppal, Yadadri Bhuvanagiri district, Telangana (northern section).

Why it matters
Hyderabad has outgrown its Outer Ring Road: the ring that was once countryside is now city. The Regional Ring Road is meant to draw the next line, far enough out that lorries from Mumbai, Nagpur, Warangal and Vijayawada can cross the region without touching the city, and close enough that the towns around Hyderabad get pulled into its economy. Telangana expects new industrial parks and townships to follow the road, just as they followed the Outer Ring Road.
History
The Regional Ring Road is planned as a second, much bigger circle around Hyderabad, far outside the existing 158 km Outer Ring Road. The full loop of roughly 350 km would tie together the towns and highways all around the city, giving long-distance traffic a way past Hyderabad without coming anywhere near it. Only the northern half — about 161 km from Girmapur near Sangareddy to Choutuppal — has been approved; NHAI will build it as national highway 161AA, and construction bids were invited in 2026. The plan was upgraded from a four-lane road to a six-lane access-controlled expressway before any construction began, which pushed the cost up sharply. The southern half is still waiting for final approval. The map here shows the northern section.
