Route
Kota–Ujjain Expressway runs 136 km from Freeganj, Madhya Pradesh to Shamgarh, Madhya Pradesh.
Crosses Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan.
Through Freeganj, Ujjain, Jharda and Shamgarh.
Why it matters
Indore is central India's biggest commercial city and it has never had a fast road north. This corridor plugs it into the Delhi–Mumbai Expressway, and it also serves the huge crowds that come to Ujjain for the Kumbh.
History
This new corridor links Kota in Rajasthan with Ujjain and Indore in Madhya Pradesh, across the Malwa plateau. It is being built partly to connect Indore, the largest city in Madhya Pradesh, to the Delhi–Mumbai Expressway, which passes close to Kota — so traffic from Indore can reach either Delhi or Mumbai on an expressway rather than on the old two-lane roads through Ratlam.
