Outer Ring Road is a 104 km national highway that loops right around Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh.
Crosses Uttar Pradesh.
Through Kakori, Jankipuram, Bagiamau, Vrindavan and Rajaji Puram.
Why it matters
Lucknow sits where half a dozen major roads of Uttar Pradesh meet. Before the ring, all of that traffic crossed the city. Now it goes round, and the state's two big expressways connect to each other without touching the centre.
History
The Lucknow Outer Ring Road is a 104 km loop built by the national highways authority right around the Uttar Pradesh capital, so that traffic between Kanpur, Ayodhya, Sultanpur, Sitapur and Raebareli no longer has to cross the city. Much of it is known locally as the Kisan Path. It ties together every highway and expressway radiating from Lucknow, including the Agra–Lucknow and Purvanchal expressways, and it has pulled a ring of new housing and warehousing out to the city's edge.
