Why it matters
This is the road that ties northern Telangana to the routes east and south, and it carries a large share of the state's farm produce towards the coastal markets.
History
Warangal and Khammam are two of Telangana's larger cities, and this four-lane highway is the direct road between them, running south-east from Warangal through Nekkonda. It is the state's main link between the northern Telangana districts and the road to Andhra Pradesh and the coast.
Good to know
- Connects Warangal, the historic Kakatiya capital, with Khammam in south-eastern Telangana.
- It carries agricultural freight — rice, chilli and cotton — out of the Telangana interior.
- Warangal at its northern end is home to the Thousand Pillar Temple and the Kakatiya fort ruins.
