History
National Highway 57 crosses western Odisha from Balangir through Subarnapur, Boudh and Nayagarh to Khordha, near Bhubaneswar. It runs through the middle of the state along the Mahanadi valley, connecting the western districts — some of the poorest in Odisha — to the capital region. The old NH 57 was the Muzaffarpur–Purnia road in Bihar; that number was reassigned in the 2010 renumbering.
