Why it matters
South Chennai grew along two parallel north–south corridors with very little joining them. This road is the link, and it is how most of the IT corridor reaches the airport.
History
The 200 Feet Radial Road cuts east–west across south Chennai, from Pallavaram on the Grand Southern Trunk Road to Thoraipakkam on the IT corridor. It was widened to its present six lanes to link the two sides of the city's southern growth — the airport and the GST Road on one side, the software offices of Old Mahabalipuram Road on the other — and it is named after Major Mukund Varadharajan, an army officer from Chennai killed in Kashmir in 2014.
